SUN11602 is a mimetic of FGF2, also known as basic FGF (bFGF).{62622} It protects against glutamate-induced toxicity in primary rat cortical neurons when used at concentrations of 0.1, 0.3, and 1 µM, an effect that can be reversed by the FGFR1 inhibitor PD 166866 (Item No. 22464). SUN11602 (1 µM) stimulates neurite outgrowth in primary rat hippocampal neurons.{62623} It reduces cognitive deficits induced by injection of aggregated amyloid-? (1-40) (A?40) and ibotenic acid (Item No. 14584) into the hippocampus in a rat model of Alzheimer’s disease when administered at a dose of 10 mg/kg.
