Q-Plex™ Human Type 2 Immunity (5-Plex) is a quantitative chemiluminescent assay (ELISA) allowing for the detection of cytokines associated with type 2 immunity. Functions of type 2 immunity include protecting the host, maintaining metabolic homeostasis, and suppressing type 1 barrier defense, and tissue regeneration. Like other immune responses, excessive or chronic activation of type 2 immunity can be harmful to the host. Allergic disease, inability to defend against pathogens, and fibrosis have been described as harmful actions of type 2 immunity. Producers of type 2 cytokines include macrophages, mast cells, T cells, macrophages, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils, and natural killer cells. A variety of immune and non-immune cells have been noted to produce type 2 cytokine responses in response epithelial damage, release of alarmins, and antigen presentation/recognition. Q-Plex™ chemiluminescent assays require analysis via the Q-View™ imaging system. See Item No. 28264 for the Q-View™ Imager LS.
