EGTA is an aminopolycarboxylic acid chelating agent.{60534} It is selective for calcium over magnesium with Kapp values for calcium ranging from 6.93 to 10.7 x 105 M-1 in various buffers at pH 6.8 and 20°C. EGTA (5 mM) inhibits apoptosis induced by the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) inhibitor thapsigargin (Item No. 10522) in isolated rat thymocytes.{60535} It has been used as an irrigation agent to remove the smear layer from the pulp canal wall on extracted human teeth.{60536} Intranasal administration of EGTA enhances adenovirus-mediated gene transfer of LacZ to the trachea and main bronchi in mice by 8-fold.{60537}
