Histatin 5 is a salivary antimicrobial peptide.{62824,62825,62823} It is active against C. albicans (LC50 = 1.8 µM), as well as A. baumannii, P. aeruginosa, and E. cloacae (MICs = 38, 47, and 90 µM, respectively).{62824,62825} Topical application of histatin 5 (20 µM) decreases fungal burden in a mouse model of C. albicans-induced vulvovaginal candidiasis.{62823}
