Ginsenoside Rh1 is a steroid glycoside and saponin that has been found in red ginseng and has diverse biological activities.{47437,47438} It inhibits expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), MMP-3, and MMP-9 induced by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA; Item No. 10008014) in U87MG and U373MG human astroglioma cells in a concentration-dependent manner.{47438} Ginsenoside Rh1 (300 ?M) also inhibits PMA-induced invasion and migration of these cell lines in Matrigel™ invasion and wound healing assays, respectively. It inhibits LPS-induced increases in nitrite accumulation, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2; Item No. 14010) synthesis, and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) protein levels in RAW 264.7 cells and inhibits histamine release induced by compound 48/80 (Item No. 22173) in rat peritoneal mast cells (IC50 = 37 ?M).{47439} Ginsenoside Rh1 (25 mg/kg, i.p.) inhibits IgE-induced passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reactions in mice by 87%. Ginsenoside Rh1 is also a metabolite of ginsenoside Re (Item No. 15330) and ginsenoside Rg1 (Item No. 15315) formed by intestinal microflora.{47438,25016}
