Cytokeratin 17 (CK-17) is an intermediate filament protein and a member of the cytokeratin protein family encoded by KRT17 in humans.{57392} It is a type I acidic cytokeratin expressed in the basal cells of epithelial appendages, such as hair follicles and sebaceous glands, and is localized to the cytoplasm. CK-17 expression can be induced in the epidermis under conditions of cellular stress, such as viral infection, injury, or psoriasis. CK-17 is also expressed in squamous, basal, and urothelial carcinomas, as well as adenocarcinomas, and is associated with poor prognosis in breast, cervical, oral squamous, and gastric carcinomas.{57392,57393} Heterozygous dominant mutations in KRT17 are associated with early onset alopecia.{57392} Missense mutations in KRT17 are associated with ectodermal dysplasias, including pachyonychia congenita and steatocystoma multiplex. Cayman’s Cytokeratin 17 (C-Term) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody can be used for immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Western blot (WB) applications.
