CRF is a 41 amino acid neuropeptide secreted by the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus in response to stress.{35248} It stimulates the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) leading to the synthesis of cortisol, glucocorticoids, and mineralocorticoids. CRF release induces anxiety-like behavior, appetite suppression, and drug-induced neuroplasticity in rats and non-human primates.
