Amyloid-? (1-40) (A?40) peptide is a 40-amino acid protein fragment of A?42 (Item No. 20574), a neurotoxic peptide found in amyloid plaques in postmortem cerebral cortex from patients with Alzheimer’s disease.{10614,42695} A?40 is more abundant, less neurotoxic, and does not form oligomers as easily as A?42.{33895,33896} Citrullinated A?40 is a modified form of A?40 (Item No. 21617) that is citrullinated at arginine 5.{59794} It exhibits increased transient formation of soluble oligomers and insoluble aggregates composed of distorted parallel ?-sheets compared with unmodified A?40, which forms fibrils composed of parallel ?-sheets.
