S-methyl-L-Cysteine is a derivative of cysteine that has been found in A. sativum and has diverse biological activities.{58399,58400,58401,58402,58403} It is a substrate for methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MSRA) and decreases locomotor deficits induced by overexpression of human ?-synuclein in a reactive climbing assay in a Drosophila model of Parkinson’s disease.{58390} S-methyl-L-Cysteine prevents exogenous cholesterol-induced increases in total cholesterol levels in serum and liver in rats with dysregulated cholesterol metabolism induced by propylthiouracil (Item No. 14069).{58401} It decreases plasma glucose, insulin, malondialdehyde (MDA), and TNF-? levels as well as increases glutathione (GSH) levels in rats fed a high-fructose diet when administered at a dose of 100 mg/kg.{58402} S-methyl-L-Cysteine (100 mg/kg, p.o.) reduces the number and area of hepatocellular foci containing the placental form of glutathione S-transferase (GST-P) in a rat model of diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocarcinogenesis.{58403}
