Necrox-5 is a cell permeable inhibitor of necrosis that also demonstrates strong mitochondrial reactive oxygen species and ONOO- scavenging activity.{29191} It predominantly localizes in mitochondria, selectively blocking oxidative stress-induced necrotic cell death (0.1 ?M necrox-5 inhibits ~50% cell death in H9C2 cells exposed to 400 ?M t-BHP).{29191} This compound has been shown to protect cells from oxidative stress, hypoxia, and cold shock in vitro, as well as carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury and chronic liver fibrosis in rodent models.{29191}
