Calcineurin B is the regulatory subunit of calcineurin, a serine/threonine phosphatase with roles in T cell activation, cardiac function, learning and memory, apoptosis, and cell cycle regulation.{61745,61746} It is encoded by two genes in mammals, PPP3R1, which is expressed in all tissues except the testes, and the testicular-restricted isoform PP3R2.{61745,61747} Calcineurin B is a calcium-binding protein that contains four EF-hand calcium-binding sites, and calcium binding to calcineurin B is essential to both the phosphatase activity of calcineurin A and binding of inhibitor complexes to calcineurin.{61748,61749} Cayman’s Calcineurin B (human, recombinant) protein can be used for binding assays. This protein consists of 187 amino acids and has a calculated molecular weight of 21.4 kDa.
